St. Louis, MO - The Hillcats were on the brink of losing their first game of the season against a top 15 opponent at No. 12 Maryville (Mo), but in the 85th minute, Erik Hjertsson scored on a game-tying penalty kick.
In the first half, Maryville was dominant on the offensive side of the ball, as they tallied 11 shots, to the Hillcats one shot. The one shot was taken by Marcos Vasallo in the 28th minute of play.
Late in the first half, Maryville scored its lone goal.
In the second half, the Hillcats improved drastically on offense, as they took four shots compared to the one they took in the first half. With time running out, Maryville committed a foul in the penalty box resulting in Hjertsson scoring the equalizer.
The Hillcats return to the pitch on Saturday, Sept 5th at 1 p.m. when they host No. 24 McKendree at Soldier Field.
