CLAREMORE, Okla. — No. 14 Rogers State men's soccer (9-1-3, 5-1-1 GAC/MIAA) and Ouachita Baptist (2-7-3, 1-5-1 GAC/MIAA) played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon at Soldier Field.
The match began with both teams striving for early control, but it was Ouachita Baptist who found the net first. Nathan Buwemi scored in the 10th minute, with an assist from Andrew Castellanos, putting the Tigers ahead 1-0. Despite several attempts by RSU, including a shot from
Hayden Parker that hit the right woodwork at 15:41 and a saved attempt from
Noah Preston-Watkins moments later, they were unable to equalize. Isaac Murie, the OBU goalkeeper, made several crucial saves, keeping the Hillcats scoreless throughout the first half. The half ended with OBU maintaining its 1-0 lead.
RSU kept the pressure on the Tigers throughout the second half, beginning with an early shot by
Alexander Frost in the 46th minute that was saved by Murie. The Hillcats continued to challenge the OBU defense with multiple attempts, including a penalty kick goal by
Brandon O'Rourke (3) in the 78th minute, which leveled the score at 1-1. On the defensive end,
Jaxon Kendall made a crucial save in the 58th minute to deny a shot from Philip Bolk. Despite numerous fouls and yellow cards issued to OBU, the Cats' maintained their offensive efforts until the final whistle. The period concluded with the score tied at 1-1.
O'Rourke scored one goal and had two shots on goal. Kendall played the entire 90 minutes in goal and recorded one save while facing three shots.
Grayson Horsley led the team with four shots, including two on target.
Conor Mills contributed to the offensive effort with two shots on goal from his position in defense.
The Hillcats will return to action next Thursday at 7 p.m. in Wichita, Kansas, to take on the Newman Jets.
