Hillcats Collect First-Ever Point Against Ichabods Following Read's First Career Goal

RSU and WU tied 1-1 in Topeka on Sunday

TOPEKA, Kan. — Rogers State women's soccer (1-5-6, 1-3-3 MIAA) collected its first-ever point against the defending MIAA Champions Washburn (8-2-3, 5-0-2 MIAA) in a 1-1 draw on Sunday at Yager Stadium.

The first half began with Rogers State focusing on a solid defensive effort. Goalkeeper Calais Butts made crucial saves against the Ichabods' early attempts, including a notable stop in the 4th minute. The defensive unit remained steadfast, fending off multiple shots to keep the score level.

Despite Washburn's persistent offensive pressure, the Hillcats' defense held firm, aided by Butts' efforts between the posts. As the half concluded, neither team had managed to break the deadlock, leaving the score tied at 0-0.

The second half began with Te Waiariki Read putting RSU ahead with her first career goal in the 46th minute, capitalizing on an early corner kick opportunity. Butts played a crucial role in maintaining the lead with key saves, including a notable stop against Kate Hinck's attempt in the 49th minute.

As the half progressed, the Ichabods increased their offensive pressure, resulting in a goal by Belle Kennedy in the 79th minute, which leveled the score. Despite continued efforts from both sides, the match concluded with a 1-1 draw at the end of the half.

Butts (1-5-5) made six saves, allowing only one goal in 90 minutes. Read scored the team's sole goal, converting both of her shots on target. Kenzie Macklin registered one shot on goal. Khari Carreno contributed with one shot during the match.

Hinck led Washburn with four shots, two of which were on goal. Kennedy was the only player to find the back of the net, scoring once on two shots, both on target. Lili Everley, in goal, recorded two saves while facing four shots.

The Hillcats will return to Soldier Field next Friday against the Newman Jets (1-11-2, 0-7-1 MIAA) at 7 p.m. for Senior Day.
