PITTSBURG, Kan. — Pittsburg State (7-1-1, 2-0-1) secured a 3-0 victory over Rogers State women's soccer (0-4-4, 0-2-1) at the Gorilla Soccer Pitch on Friday afternoon.
The first half began with Pittsburg State applying offensive pressure early against RSU.
Calais Butts was tested frequently, making six saves, including shots from Carrie Cunningham and Shayla Hunt. Pitt broke through in the 26th minute with a goal by Sailor Jensen, assisted by Ann Boehnlein. Danae Hobson added to the lead with a goal in the 43rd minute, concluding the half with Pitt leading 2-0.
Pittsburg State extended its lead in the second half, capitalizing on a blocked shot by Mia Hunt to set up Dylann Ehegartner's goal in the 67th minute, bringing the score to 3-0. The Hillcats struggled to find scoring opportunities, with their offensive efforts stifled by consistent fouls. Pitt maintained pressure throughout, taking multiple shots and corner kicks, while RSU faced challenges in breaking through the Gorillas' defense. The half concluded with several fouls on both sides, but Pitt held firm to secure their victory.
Rogers State was held without a shot attempt for the first time this season.
Butts recorded eight saves in goal over 90 minutes for the Hillcats despite conceding three goals.
The Hillcats will return to action on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against Missouri Southern (2-2-3, 0-0-2) at Soldier Field.
