HAYS, Kan. — No. 13 Rogers State (12-3-5, 8-2-2 GAC/MIAA) fell in the GAC/MIAA Tournament Championship game to Fort Hays State (17-0-3, 11-0-1 GAC/MIAA) 2-1 on Saturday. The Hillcats scored the opening goal of the match in the first half but were unable to maintain their lead, as Hays improved to 3-0 in the season series.

The match began with RSU establishing its presence early and focusing on defensive efforts.
Jaxon Kendall made two crucial saves in the 16th and 17th minutes, denying the Tigers the opportunity to take an early lead.
As the half progressed, the defensive stand by the Hillcats was matched by a strategic offensive push. In the 43rd minute,
Noah Preston-Watkins capitalized on an opportunity to score, putting RSU ahead. The first half concluded with the Hillcats leading 1-0, maintaining their advantage into halftime.
The second half began with momentum on RSU's side as Preston-Watkins quickly attempted a shot in the 46th minute, followed by two corner kicks in the opening minutes. Despite these early efforts, the Cats' could not capitalize.
The Tigers shifted the momentum in their favor with a goal by Elias Ovelar Semeniuk in the 65th minute, assisted by Harrison Bensouda and Jackson Elgas, putting them ahead. RSU responded with a shot from
Oliver Hemlin in the 76th minute, but it was saved by Payton Roehrich.
The Tigers extended their lead when Juan Linares scored in the 80th minute. RSU made a late push with
Ashton Medina taking a shot in the 90th minute, but they were unable to equalize. The half concluded with the Tigers securing a 2-1 victory.
Preston-Watkins scored one goal, leading the team's offensive efforts. Kendall made two saves in the game, facing a total of 10 shots. Hemlin recorded one shot, which was on target, contributing to the team's attacking play.
Linares was instrumental in the victory, scoring the game-winning goal and leading the team with three shots, two of which were on target. Semeniuk contributed significantly by scoring on his only shot attempt. Bensouda provided an assist, showing strong playmaking abilities in the midfield. Additionally, Elgas recorded an assist, playing a crucial role in creating scoring opportunities. Goalkeeper Roehrich secured the win by making one save and allowing just one goal over 90 minutes.
RSU will await their spot in the NCAA Tournament, with the selection show set for 6 p.m on Monday.
