HAYS, Kan. — Rogers State women's soccer (2-7-7, 2-5-4 MIAA) and Fort Hays State (3-11-2, 1-8-2 MIAA) played to a 1-1 draw on Sunday at FHSU Soccer Stadium.
The Hillcats equalized in the second half, capitalizing on one of their four shots on goal. The Tigers opened the scoring in the first half and outshot RSU 13-4, but RSU's goalkeeper,
Calais Butts, recorded three crucial saves to secure the tie.
The first half opened with Fort Hays State establishing an early lead through a penalty kick goal by Chaley French in the ninth minute. Butts made key saves, denying multiple attempts by Sydney Cotter, including a notable save in the 38th minute. Despite a couple of shots by the Cats, including attempts by
Kenzie Macklin and
Kelsey Hogan, they were unable to find the net. The half concluded with Fort Hays St. leading 1-0.
The Hillcats found the equalizer in the final minutes of the match when
Kenzie Macklin scored her third goal of the season in the 88th minute. The goal was set up by assists from
Te Waiariki Read and
Brooke Hartshorn. Despite multiple offensive efforts from the Tigers, including a series of shots and corner kicks, RSU held firm defensively. The half concluded with the score tied at 1-1, resulting in the game ending in a tie.
The Hillcats will wrap up the 2025 campaign against rival Northeastern State (10-6-1, 5-5-1 MIAA) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. from DeLoache Field in Tahlequah.
