CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State baseball (16-6, 6-4 MIAA) hosted Central Oklahoma (17-8, 7-6 MIAA) in the first game of a three-game, mid-week MIAA series, but suffered an 11-2 loss Tuesday afternoon, where wind gusts blew up to 35 mph.
UCO scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning. However, RSU responded with two runs in the home half of the frame to jump in front 2-1. Jackson Romero hit an RBI single to center field, which allowed Luis Fuentes to score. Jake Mitchell collected an RBI single, lacing a ball to left field which allowed Romero to score.Â
The Bronchos evened the score in the top of the third inning with a solo home run to left. They took the lead back 3-2 in the top of the fourth inning, with an RBI single up the middle. The contest remained close, as both teams pitched well and played incredible defense, until the top of the eighth inning.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Bronchos scored eight runs and the Hillcats unfortunately could not answer back, setting the final score at 11-2.
Gage Norvell (2-0) earned the win. Cole Abbott (1-1) took the loss.
The Hillcats will look to regroup and return to the RCB Bank Sports Complex on Friday, March 21 where they will host No. 2 Central Missouri in a three-game series. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
