CLAREMORE, Okla. - No. 8 Rogers State softball (24-9, 8-6 MIAA) dropped a Top 25 doubleheader to No. 25 Pittsburg State (27-9, 8-2 MIAA) in a rematch of last year's MIAA Tournament Championship on Friday.
GAME 1 - PSU 4, RSU 0
The first game of the day was a classic pitchers' duel. After a scoreless first inning, the Gorillas got on the board with an RBI single to right in the second to jump out to a 1-0 lead.Â
From there, both starters refused to allow a run over the next four frames with both pitchers combining to scatter one hit and leave four runners stranded. RSU's lone hit came in the fourth inning as Chloe Bohuslavicky dropped a single in no man's land between third base and the circle to break up the no-hitter.
Pitt State was able to tack on three more runs in the seventh to seal the 4-0 win.
Ava Laurent (11-4) earned the win. Jade Sanders (8-5) took the loss.
GAME 2 - PSU 6, RSU 3
The game saw the Hillcat offense begin to show signs of life as Mariah Belzer launched a 1-1 solo shot to left in the second to give RSU an early 1-0 lead. Kaylee Lyon followed suit in the third with her own round-tripper extending the advantage to 2-0.
The Gorillas jumped in front with a 6-2 lead in the fourth after exploding for six runs.
The Hillcats attempted to mount a comeback in the sixth but were only able to get a solo shot from Callie Yellin to set the final score at 6-3.
Aydenne Brown (12-4) earned the win, with Chelsea Beville (1) picking up the save. Harley Culie (11-3) took the loss.
RSU will look to bounce back tomorrow as they play host to Central Missouri on Indigenous Peoples' Day at the RCB Bank Sports Complex. First pitch is set for noon.
