Hillcats Drop Game Two Of Series To Newman

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State baseball (13-3, 4-1 MIAA) outhit Newman (6-12, 2-6 MIAA) 11-10, but ultimately came up short 11-6 in the second game of the series on Saturday.

Newman got on the board in the top of the first inning and led 1-0.

RSU responded in a big way in the bottom of the second when Tyler Nelson hit an RBI single to left field, driving in Jake Mitchell. Two at-bats later, Andreas Contreras blasted a three-run bomb over the right field fence, which scored Nelson and Weston Peninger and put the Hillcats in front 4-1.

After three scoreless frames, the Jets pushed across three runs to tie the contest 4-4 in the top of the sixth. However, RSU responded and went back up 5-4 in the home half of the inning when Andrew Ramirez hit an RBI single to left field, plating Carson Cheatwood.

Newman tacked on four more runs in the top of the seventh inning and two runs in the top of the eighth to take a 10-5 lead headed into the ninth. They brought in one more run for an 11-5 advantage in the top of that inning.

The Hillcats tried to mount another comeback in the bottom of the inning with a solo shot to right by Contreras, but that is all they were able to get and fell 11-6.

Caden Poor (1-0) took the win. Ricardo Landeros (0-2) took the loss.

The two sides will face off in the rubber match inside the friendly confines of the RCB Bank Sports Complex tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
