CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State baseball (21-16, 11-14 MIAA) fell 15-1 in seven innings to Pittsburg State (30-7, 19-7 MIAA) in the series finale on Sunday.
The Gorillas got hot early as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. They added two more in the second to go up 5-0.
Pitt State launched a solo shot to left to increase the advantage to 6-0 in the fourth.Â
They broke the game open in the sixth as they exploded for nine runs to go up 15-0.Â
The Hillcats had their opportunities to score as they had seven hits through six innings, but left six runners stranded. However, they avoided the shutout in the seventh as Luis Fuentes led off the inning with a single to left. Mitchell Smith singled to center with one out. Tyler Nelson dropped a ball into deep left center to drive in Fuentes with a double and set the final score at 15-1.
Tanner Leslie (4-2) earned the win. Christopher Spry (4-3) took the loss.
RSU will be back in action on Tuesday, April 15 as they close out the mid-week series at home against Central Oklahoma. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
