RSU Takes Care Of Business Against Washburn In MIAA Tournament Quarterfinals

HAYS, Kan. - No. 16 Rogers State softball (36-12) took care of business in a 6-1 win over Washburn in the quarterfinals of the MIAA Tournament on Thursday.

After two scoreless frames to start, the Ichabods got on the board first in the third inning with a 1-0 lead thanks to a leadoff triple and a RBI groundout to short.

The Hillcats responded in the bottom of the fourth as Bridgett Morales laced a one-out double to right center. After battling for eight pitches, Savannah Evans blasted a two-run homer over the right field wall to put RSU in front 2-1.

They tacked on two more runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 4-1. McKayla Carney singled to right with one out to get things started, with Callie Yellin then wearing a pitch to put two runners on. On a 1-1 pitch, Chloe Bohuslavicky doubled down the right field line, scoring both Carney and Yellin.

RSU added two final runs in the home half of the sixth to seal the 6-1 win. Brooke Nauman reached on a fielder's choice. A hit-by-pitch of Kaylee Lyon and a full count walk of Carney loaded the bases with two outs. Abbey Rogers plated Nauman and Lyon with a two RBI single through the right side of the infield.

Harley Culie (18-5) earned the win after throwing 4.1 shutout innings out of the bullpen and scattering four hits with two strikeouts. Sadie Walker (15-10) took the loss.

The Hillcats will take on the winner of Pittsburg State and Missouri Western in the semifinals tomorrow. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
