Eight Baseball Hillcats Earn All-MIAA Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo.  – Eight Rogers State baseball student-athletes earned All-MIAA honors as the Association announced its list of yearly awards on Tuesday.
 
Andrew Ramirez was named First Team All-MIAA. The Ramona, Calif. native finished the regular season with a team-leading .333 average with 64 hits, 13 home runs, 59 RBI, 43 runs scored and four home runs. He currently ranks six in the MIAA in RBI and eighth in home runs. The junior tied both the program single season home run record and the Division II Era single season RBI record in the regular season finale against No. 19 Fort Hays State. His 13 round-trippers tie him with Blake Kelley (2008) and Cody Campbell (2011). His 59 RBIs tie him with Grant Farris (2019).
 
Colton Anderson was named Second Team All-MIAA. A product of Verdigris, Okla., Anderson finished the regular season with an 8-4 record on the mound with a team-leading 2.90 ERA over 77.2 innings with 67 strikeouts. The senior currently ranks third in the league in ERA and wins and fifth in innings pitched and opposing batting average (.215).
 
Weston Peninger and Andres Contreras were named Third Team All-MIAA. A native of Flower Mound, Texas, Peninger finished the regular season with a .315 average, 56 hits, 10 home runs, 37 RBI, 34 runs scored and a stolen base. Contreras, a product of Chula Vista, Calif., finished the regular season with a .286 average, 40 hits, eight home runs, 30 RBI, 29 runs scored and two stolen bases.
 
Ky Decker, Landon Riley and Jackson Romero were all named All-MIAA Honorable Mention. A native of Orem, Utah, Decker earned a 7-2 record on the mound during the regular season with a 5.07 ERA in 71.0 innings pitched with 47 strikeouts. Riley, a product of Bakersfield, Calif., earned a 4-3 record with six saves and a 3.86 ERA in 37.1 innings pitched with 35 strikeouts. A native of Fort Collins, Colo., Jackson Romero finished the regular season with a .259 average, 44 hits, four home runs, 34 RBI, 36 runs scored and eight stolen bases.
 
Ramirez and Carson Cheatwood also earned Gold Glove honors at their respective positions. Ramirez racked up 109 putouts with 126 assists with only three errors for a .987 fielding percentage. Cheatwood, a Tulsa, Okla. product, logged 116 putouts, three assists and three errors for a .975 fielding percentage.
 
The Hillcats earned the No. 5 seed in the MIAA Baseball Championship and begin their postseason journey on Thursday, May 8 in Joplin, Mo. with a quarterfinal matchup against No. 4-seed Central Oklahoma. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
