TULSA, Okla. – Head Coach
Lexi Johnson started her coaching tenure victorious, as the Hillcats secured their second consecutive win at the NSU Women's Classic, held at Page Belcher Golf Course.
"I am really proud of the team and how they competed today," commented head coach
Lexi Johnson after the win. "We talked a lot about recovering from mistakes or a bad hole before the tournament and they all did a great job at that and adapting and fighting for shots out on the course." Johnson added, "I couldn't ask for anything more for my first tournament as head coach. They are a really fantastic group and I am excited for the rest of the year and to keep competing to win tournaments."
The Hillcats concluded the tournament with a total score of 589 (+21) over two rounds. After starting the second day in a three-way tie, Rogers State improved its performance, bettering its score by nine strokes to finish the day with a round total of 290 (+6).
Arkansas-Fort Smith finished as the runner-up with a score of 596 (+21). Harding placed third with a score of +28, followed by Southwestern Oklahoma State (+39) and Oklahoma Baptist (+47). UAFS's Aliesa Situmorang (+1) won the individual title for the Lions.
Senior
Brianna Maddux recorded her career-best finish in second place with a scorecard of 144 (+2). The Owasso native shot 73 (+2) in the second round, including birdies on holes four and 13. This marks her second top-three finish at the NSU Women's Classic, having previously taken third last season.
Milena Andres was second on the team, finishing tied for fourth with a two-day total of 147 (+5). The sophomore opened the day strong with two birdies on the front nine, finishing one shot under par before concluding at +2 with a round score of 73.
Junior
Lauren Anderson rounded out the top three finishers for the Hillcats, finishing in ninth place with a career-high score of 148 (+6). The Arkansas native had a stellar final round, finishing even par with a score of 71.
Freshman
Lou Fourdan placed 21st, improving her round total by a stroke to finish at 153 (+11).
Lara Foigel was locked in during the second round, finishing 10 strokes ahead of her previous round to conclude in 34th place.
Individually,
Rylan Ashley finished with a total score of 152 (+10), improving her performance on day two by six strokes for a career-high 19th finish.
Clara Ledun added a score of 158 (+16) to finish tied for 41st in her collegiate debut.
