Trussell's Goal Secures Shutout Win for Men’s Soccer in Home Opener Against Rockhurst

Hillcats collect 1-0 win to remain unbeaten

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Junior Kaleb Trussell scored his second career goal, leading the Rogers State Men's Soccer team (2-0-1) to a 1-0 victory over Rockhurst (1-2-0) on Thursday afternoon.

After a scoreless first half marked by numerous offside penalties, Trussell positioned himself perfectly to capitalize on a play in the 61st minute, giving RSU a one-goal advantage. He chipped a shot into the net after Ashton Medina's initial strike was blocked in the box.

The Hillcats outshot the Hawks 11 to 9, with five shots on goal compared to Rockhurst's three. This win also marked Jake Simpson's first career victory at Soldier Field as the head RSU Men's Soccer coach.

Sophomore Louis Bassett led the Hillcats with three shots, including one on goal. Oliver Hemlin and Brandon O'Rourke each finished with two shots.

Junior Jaxon Kendall (2-0-1) recorded his second consecutive shutout in goal for the Hillcats, making three saves during the match. The Owasso, Oklahoma, native played the full 90 minutes. Senior captain Artur Carvalho increased his season total minutes played to 270, as he remained on the defensive side of the pitch for the entire game.

RSU will hit the road once again to take on Oklahoma Christian (1-1-1) this Saturday. Kick off from Eagle Soccer Field in Edmond is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
