Hillcats Struggle to Overcome Tritons Fifth Inning Surge in Finale Loss

RSU dropped Sunday's game to UMSL, 10-6

CLAREMORE, Okla. — Rogers State baseball (6-2) fell to the Missouri-St. Louis (3-5) 10-6 in the Sunday finale at RCB Bank Sports Complex.

Despite leading after the first inning, RSU saw the Tritons take control with a five-run fifth inning, bolstered by three home runs throughout the game. The Hillcats mounted a late push with three runs in the eighth but could not overcome the deficit.

RSU initially grabbed an early lead in the first inning with Jake Mitchell's RBI single. Andrew Ramirez added his first home run of the season in the fifth, and the Cats put together a dynamic eighth inning where Tyler Nelson drove in two runs with a single, but could not overcome the deficit. Gavin Gamino contributed with a double and a stolen base, but missed opportunities and nine stranded base runners limited further scoring impact.

The Tritons turned the game with a pivotal fifth inning, scoring five runs to take a five-run lead. A two-run homer followed by a sacrifice fly and another two-run shot shifted momentum firmly in their favor. UMSL also grabbed eight stolen bases.

Cole Abbott came in relief, pitching 3.0 innings, conceding two hits and two earned runs. Elijah Knowlton followed, pitching one inning and giving up three hits and two earned runs.
