No. 15 Baseball Ties School Record with 19th-Straight Win in Run-Rule Over ESU

RSU collected an MIAA era season-best ninth run-rule on Saturday with the 10-0 victory

CLAREMORE, Okla. — No. 15 RSU Baseball (27-3, 15-1 MIAA) made history with its 19th-straight win on Saturday with a series-sealing 10-0 (7) run-rule against Emporia State (22-8, 9-7 MIAA) at RCB Bank Sports Complex.

The Hillcats tied the 2011 school record 19-game win streak, and broke the MIAA era run-rule total for a season with their ninth. Additionally, RSU has collected six straight run-rules and nine in their last 11 games.

Rogers State opened its scoring in the bottom of the second inning. Jake Mitchell walked, and Nathan Gutierrez was hit by a pitch, advancing Mitchell to second. Blake Conrad then reached first on a fielding error by third base, allowing both Mitchell and Gutierrez to score unearned runs, making the score 2-0.

In the fourth inning, RSU extended its lead to 5-0. Andres Contreras singled - extending his team-leading hit streak to 15 games - followed by a single from Mitchell. Gutierrez reached on a fielder's choice, and Zak Nelson was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Conrad delivered a single to center field, driving in two runs. Luis Fuentes reached on a throwing error by the pitcher, allowing another run to score.

Sammy Harris hit his fifth home run of the season with a solo shot in the fifth inning, extending the lead to 6-0.

In the sixth inning, Gutierrez doubled and scored on a single by Nelson. A fielder's choice and a throwing error advanced Nelson to third, who then scored on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Ramirez, making the lead 8-0.

The Hillcats secured the 10-0 run-rule in the seventh inning. Mitchell singled, Gutierrez singled, and Nelson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Conrad's single to center field brought in the final two runs.

Dillon Dibrell (6-1) delivered an outstanding performance for the Hillcats in his eighth start, pitching 5.1 innings while allowing only one hit and no earned runs. He struck out six batters and walked three. Ricardo Landeros contributed effectively in relief, pitching 1.2 innings, conceding one hit and striking out one.

Harris hit a home run, contributing one run and one RBI. Mitchell scored three runs and collected two hits while drawing a walk. Gutierrez crossed the plate four times, tallying two hits, including a double. Conrad drove in four runs with two hits, aiding the team's offensive efforts.

The Hillcats and Hornets will wrap up the series tomorrow afternoon with the finale at the RCB Bank Sport Complex set for 1 p.m.
