ALVA, Okla. — Rogers State women's soccer (1-1-0, 0-0-0) fell to Northwestern Oklahoma State (1-0-1, 0-0-0) with a final score of 1-0 on Sunday at the Alva Rec Complex. Despite posting 12 saves, the Hillcats were unable to overcome the single goal notched by the Rangers in the first half.
The first half commenced with the Rangers applying early pressure, as Jazelle Alvarado's shot was saved by the Hillcats' goalkeeper,
Calais Butts, in the first minute. RSU responded with
Bella Holland attempting a shot at the 5:35 mark, which was saved by Taylor Annen of the Rangers. The breakthrough came in the 28th minute when Cambell Tabor scored for the Rangers, assisted by Mylee Yuill, giving them a 1-0 lead. Despite multiple attempts from both sides, including a shot by RSU's
Taylor Mendez in the 28th minute, the period ended with the Rangers maintaining their one-goal advantage.
In the second half, the Rangers maintained their 1-0 lead, with the Cats' unable to find the back of the net.
Eliza Naegle made several crucial saves in her debut, including one in the 47th minute from Alyssa Hotze and another in the 52nd minute by Mylee Yuill. RSU's offensive efforts were thwarted by the Rangers' defense, with Holland's shot in the final minute being saved by Taylor Annen. Despite a corner kick opportunity in the 87th minute, the Hillcats could not capitalize, and the game concluded with no additional goals.
Butts (1-1) made an impressive nine saves during her time in goal, showing resilience despite facing 12 shots. Naegle contributed with three saves, keeping a clean sheet in her 45-minute stint. Holland led the offensive efforts with four shots, two of which were on target.
Sophia Brandes managed one shot on goal, adding to the team's attacking attempts.
The Hillcats will head to Searcy, Arkansas, on Friday to take on the Harding Lady Bison. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
