Robert Brown

Robert Brown is in his 16th year with the Rogers State baseball coaching staff, having served as an assistant coach since the program's inaugural season in 2006, including one season with the club team in 2005.

Working as the staff's pitching coach, Brown totaled five All-Heartland Conference pitchers in the last two seasons, as the navy and red totaled their fourth straight winning season. This past season, Brown's leadership over the pitchers helped lead the Hillcats to the program's first Heartland Conference Tournament Championship, as well as a run in the NCAA Region II Tournament, as RSU came within one game of a super regional. The season included a season record and career record in saves from Brock Knoten, who developed under Brown to be one of the top closing pitchers in the South Central Region and the nation in 2019.

In the 2017 season, Brown guided All-American selection Rusty Huber. Huber, who became the first-ever pitcher to earn NCAA Division II All-American honors for RSU, was a third team selection from three organizations: National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, American Baseball Coaches Association and the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association. With the guidance from Brown, Huber totaled 11 saves, one off his single season school record from 2016, and a 1.00 earned run average. Huber also earned All-South Central Region First Team honors from the ABCA, NCBWA and D2CCA in 2017.

In the 2016 season, Huber was named All-South Central Region First Team by the ABCA, NCBWA and D2CCA. Under the tutelage of Brown, Huber broke RSU records for single season saves and career saves while posting a 1.50 earned run average.

Brown also is responsible for recruiting, travel management and scouting along with his duties as pitching coach for the Hillcats.

Brown played an integral part in RSU's climb to a 2012 NAIA runner-up finish and back-to-back appearances in the Avista-NAIA World Series in 2012 and 2013. Serving as the pitching coach, the Hillcats have had two players under his direction drafted in the Major League Baseball draft. Eight times a Hillcat pitcher was named to Sooner Athletic Conference All-Conference teams in Brown’s time in Claremore.

He previously served as an assistant coach at Radford University, a NCAA Division I school in Virginia that competed in the Big South Conference. His duties at Radford were primarily pitching, defense and recruiting. Brown also has served as the head coach of the Waynesboro Generals of the Valley League for two seasons.

Prior to his work with Waynesboro, Brown served as an assistant coach at Collinsville High School as well as a stint at Oklahoma Junior College in Oklahoma City.
