Sutherland Breaks Scoring Records in Hillcat Win

PLAINVIEW, Texas - Rogers State's Robin Sutherland etched her name into the record books with six goals in the Hillcats 8-3 win over Wayland Baptist on Tuesday.

Sutherland's six goals set a new single-game record at RSU and gave her the single-season scoring record for the Sooner Athletic Conference. The senior forward's astounding 36 goals surpassed the old record of 33 held by Cristy Womack of Oklahoma City University.

"I can't say enough about what Robin has accomplished this season," said Derek Larkin, RSU head soccer coach. "To break the SAC scoring record with a first-year program is truly remarkable and we're very proud of her."

Sutherland also became the SAC's single-season points leader on Monday with 84. RSU actually trailed Wayland Baptist 2-0 in the early going before Sutherland went on a scoring spree. The Rogers, Ark., native scored four times in the final 20 minutes of the first half to give the Hillcats a 4-2 lead. She added two more goals and an assist in the second period as RSU cruised to an 8-3 victory. Vanessa Oxford scored once for RSU and assisted Sutherland on three of her four first-half goals.

During her historic run Sutherland has scored at least three goals on six different occasions. She has 10 multi-goal games and has found the back of the net at least once in all but one RSU match this season. Her 12 assists also rank among the best in the NAIA.

Rogers State (14-2, 7-2) will close out the regular season by honoring Sutherland and fellow senior Kacie Hohenberger on Monday night at Soldier Field. The Hillcats match with Mid-America Christian is slated for 5 p.m.
