Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Hillcats Halted by Pioneers, 70-61

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State committed 30 fouls and Wayland Baptist made 30 free throws as the Pioneers upset the Hillcats 70-61 at the Claremore Expo Thursday night.

The two teams exchanged the lead three times in the second half before a Michal Polanowski slam with 6:37 remaining made it 52-51 in favor of WBU. The Pioneers never relinquished the lead from that point thanks in large part to precision shooting from the charity stripe. Wayland Baptist converted on 77-percent of its free throw attempts in the game, making eight more shots than the Hillcats even attempted.

Danney Storey led the attack on both ends of the floor for WBU. He finished with 21 points and 18 rebounds. The Hillcats were outrebounded for only the second time this season as the Pioneers held a 36-to-25 advantage on the glass.

Bryson Krueger scored a team-high 12 points for RSU. Eric Young and Sylvester Spicer each finished with 11. The game turned ugly in the second half as six technical fouls were issued by the officials. Roderick Rodgers received two for RSU and Bryson Krueger and Wren Baker were each assessed one in the final minute of the game. Polanowski and Lee Berend picked up technicals for WBU.

Rogers State (7-3, 2-2) suffered its second home loss of the season and will look to rebound with another home date on Saturday. The Hillcats will host Lubbock Christian at the Claremore Expo at 3 p.m. RSU is offering free admission for the entire afternoon of basketball and both the men's and women's games will be carried live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
