Hillcat Men Edge Evangels, 1-0

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State scored early and held off several charges by Mid-America Christian late to win 1-0 in a tightly contested match at Soldier Field in Claremore, Okla. Tuesday night.
 

Des Fitzgerald recorded the only goal of the match on a pass from TJ Martin in the 30th minute. Neither team could break through over the final 60 minutes of the match as the Cats held on for the victory. Sophomore goalie Sean Surridge recorded nine saves, including several big stops down the stretch, to preserve the shutout.
 

The two conference foes were nearly even in shots. Both teams posted nine saves with the Hillcats outshooting the Evangels 22-17. Each squad had four first half and five second half shots on goal.
 

Rogers State (8-3-1, 2-2) evened its conference record and moved up to fifth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings with the win. The Hillcats travel to Shawnee, Okla., Saturday to face Oklahoma Baptist. The match is slated for 3 p.m.
