CLAREMORE, Okla. - If Thursday night's match against Wayland Baptist was supposed to be a test, Rogers State passed with flying colors.
The Hillcats dropped the Pioneers 3-0 in a match they controlled throughout at Soldier Field in Claremore, Okla. In its previous two matches Wayland Baptist had taken both No. 14 Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma City to overtime. RSU left no questions as to who was the better team on this night.
Freshman Rachel Atnip scored her first career goal on an assist from Summer White with just over six minutes remaining in the first half to give the Cats the lead. Senior Carey Cloud beat WBU goalie Kylie Middleton on a penalty kick in the 75th minute and White iced the match with a direct kick score at the 85:21 mark.
The Hillcats kept Middleton busy with 26 total shots and 11 shots on goal. Bailey Lynn recorded her third straight shutout victory with two saves. The RSU women extended their home winning streak to an astounding 18 games. The second-year program has never lost a match at Soldier Field.
Rogers State (8-1, 3-0) remains tied atop the conference standings and boasts the best overall record in the league. The Hillcats will host College of Saint Mary (Omaha, Neb.) in their final non-conference match of the season Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field. The match is slated for 1 p.m.
