Hillcat Men Blank Bacone, 5-0

MUSKOGEE, Okla. - Rogers State's first performance of 2008 rivaled its best work from a year ago. The Hillcats tied a team record for goals and produced the program's fifth shutout in a 5-0 drubbing of Bacone College Saturday night in Muskogee, Okla.

Five different Cats found the back of the net while the RSU defense held the Warriors to just two total shots in the match. Freshman Henrique Sousa scored struck first on a converted penalty kick nine minutes into the first half. Freshman TJ Martin was credited with the second goal after his shot deflected off a Warrior defender and into the net. Junior Vitor Mantovani, who led RSU is scoring last season, netted his first goal of 2008 with five minutes to play in the first half to make it 3-0.

Sophomore Carlos Zuta added to the lead with a goal 27 minutes into the second half and sophomore Des Fitzgerald finished off Bacone on a penalty kick tally five minutes later. Freshman keeper Tou Yang recorded the only save of the night for the Hillcats.

Rogers State (1-0) returns to "The Hill" Wednesday for the home opener against Our Lady of the Lake (San Antonio, Tex.) at Soldier Field. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
