CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State fell behind early and couldn't recover while facing its first ranked opponent of the season as No. 21 University of Science and Arts stopped the Cats, 2-0 Tuesday night at Soldier Field in Claremore.
RSU managed just two shots on goal in the entire match while the Drovers posted 18 shots, including nine shots on goal. Dusan Rasovic gave USAO the early lead with a strike off the cross bar and into the net in the 12th minute. David Otieno followed with a successful bicycle kick in the 25th minute to give the Drovers some breathing room.
Hillcat goalie Sean Surridge worked hard to keep his team within striking distance. He kept USAO out of the net in the second half and finished with seven saves in the match. His counterpart, Ryan Mcentee, earned the shutout victory with two saves. It marked just the second time this season RSU was unable to muster a single goal.
Rogers State (11-3-1, 3-2-1) fell into a tie for fifth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings while USAO maintained sole possession of first place. The Hillcats return to action Friday as they host Oklahoma Christian at Soldier Field in Claremore. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
