Hillcats Torch Lady Eagles, 79-44

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State roared out of the gate and quickly ran away from Oklahoma Wesleyan for a 79-44 victory Thursday night at the Claremore Expo.

The Hillcats opened the game with five 3-point baskets in the first five minutes en route to claiming a season sweep over their regional rivals. Junior Hunter Peterson led the charge with four treys and a game-high 18 points. Six RSU players nailed at least one shot from behind the arc.

The Cats led by 20 points at the half. Coach Amy Williams' team connected on 6-of-11 3-point attempts in the first period while holding OWU to only six total field goals.
Logan Froese capped a 9-0 run with a 3-point play early in the second half. The bucket and converted free throw pushed the lead to 31 and squashed any thoughts of an OWU comeback. The freshman recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Jenny Hardin chipped in with her second double-double of the season by posting 11 points and 10 boards. The Claremore duo spurred RSU to a 56-34 advantage on the glass.

Rebecca Schulter led the Lady Eagles with 12 points, but was held well below her season average of 17. OWU shot just 32 percent from the field and committed 19 turnovers. All 12 players in uniform played at least 10 minutes for the Hillcats as the RSU bench outscored the OWU reserves, 32-14.

Rogers State (5-0) kept its perfect start alive with its fifth consecutive victory. The Hillcats will travel to Siloam Springs, Ark., Tuesday to open Sooner Athletic Conference play against John Brown University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be carried live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
