SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Rogers State posted a 3-1 record with three come-from-behind victories in a weather-shortened weekend at the Evangel University Tournament in Springfield, Mo.

Runs were at a premium with temperatures hovering around 30 degrees on Friday. The Hillcats scored three runs in the seventh inning to beat Williams Baptist in the opener, 5-2. Jenny Johnson belted a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh to beat Midland Lutheran, 3-2. Missouri Valley tripped up the Cats with two runs in the bottom of the eighth to win, 4-3. RSU then closed the day with a 4-3 win over Hannibal-LaGrange to finish with a hard-fought 3-1 tournament record.

The second day of the tournament was called off due to a winter storm in the Springfield area on Saturday.
GAME ONE
Â
RSU trailed 2-1 entering the sixth inning before rallying for four runs to claim a 5-2 victory over Williams Baptist.

Lillian Nevarez drew a walk to start the sixth and scored the tying run on a two-out single by Marie Gaudet. Allison Bean doubled to start the seventh and Tanya Koch reached on an error. Senior Megan Wood plated both runners with a triple into the right field gap. Natalie Smith tacked on another run in the frame to reach the final margin.

Johnson tossed a complete game, allowing just two unearned runs with four strikeouts. She scattered four hits across seven innings to improve to 8-1. Gaudet collected two of the Hillcats six hits.
GAME TWO
Â
Johnson crushed a dramatic walk-off home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Midland Lutheran, 3-2.

RSU trailed by one after giving up single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Wood opened the bottom of the seventh with a single but was erased on a fielder's choice grounder by Nevarez. The Hillcats were down to their last strike when Johnson turned the game around with one swing. She belted a full-count offering over the centerfield wall to give the Cats their second seventh inning comeback win of the day.

Johnson also picked up the win with four innings of relief. She gave up two runs, one earned, in four innings of work. Starter Jackie Kragel was perfect through the first three frames. She retired Midland in order three straight times and fanned three batters. Johnson went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI.
GAME THREE
Â
The Hillcats had no last inning magic left for the third game of the day as they suffered a 4-3 loss in extra innings to Missouri Valley College.

Bean cranked a solo homer in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at 2-2 and force extra innings. Nevarez put RSU on top 3-2 with an RBI single to left in the top of the eighth. However, Edna Guitierrez ripped an RBI triple to tie the game in the bottom of the inning and Cassidy Bagget followed with a game-winning single for MVC.

Johnson was tagged with just her second loss of the season. She racked up 10 strikeouts and allowed four runs, three earned, on four hits. Tatum Hathrock earned a complete-game victory for Missouri Valley.
GAME FOUR
Â
RSU scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning and held on for a 4-3 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange in the final game of the day.

Bean produced the big blow with a three run homer, her second of the season. Hannibal scored a run in the top of the fourth with the aid of two Hillcat errors but was held scoreless the rest of the way. Johnson was credited with the victory after tossing 4.2 innings of relief. She improved to 10-2 on the season.

Nevarez tallied two of the Cats seven hits while Bean picked up three RBI with one swing of the bat.
Rogers State (10-4) travels to Muskogee, Okla., Tuesday to face Bacone College in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The Hillcats return home to host Northwestern Oklahoma State in a conference doubleheader Thursday at the Hillcat Complex. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
