CLAREMORE, Okla. - The newly crowned No.1 Oklahoma City Stars cranked out 14 hits en route to a 9-2 victory over Rogers State Thursday afternoon at the Hillcat Complex.
Â
RSU held the Stars down until the fifth when they scored three runs with two outs to stake a 5-1 lead. Ryan Littlejohn answered with a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the inning. However, the Cats were held scoreless the rest of the way.
Â
OCU starter Ashur Tolliver kept the RSU bats in check with a fastball that topped out in the low 90's. He tossed 7.2 innings and yielded just two runs, one earned, on five hits to improve to 5-0 on the season. Hillcat starter Sam Cornell (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season with five innings of work.
Â
Sammy Lee singled to start the fifth for OCU but appeared to be stalled at first after back-to-back fly outs. B.J. Wheeler, Landon Camp, Jason Muchado and Kirk Walker followed with four straight singles to give the Stars a four-run lead. OCU tacked on two runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth to reach the final margin.
Â
Walker and Brandon Moss led the OCU offense with three hits apiece. Travis Harold belted two doubles for RSU and was the only Hillcat to record a multi-hit game.
