Hillcats Fall Short at No. 15 Langston, 76-75

LANGSTON, Okla. - The Rogers State women's basketball team was unable to get past no. 15 Langston in consecutive weeks, falling 76-75 at C.F. Gayles Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.

The Hillcats rallied from a nine point halftime deficit, taking their first lead of the game with 14 seconds remaining. Courtney Crockett hit a shot in the paint to give RSU a 75-74 lead.  However, Deanne Adger was able to hit the game-winner with two seconds to spare, giving the Lions the win.

Andrea Miles led the Hillcats in scoring with a season-high 19 points on the night. Angie Criner added 17 points and Crockett rounded out the double digit scorers with 14 points.  Criner and Miles both went 2-for-3 from long distance, knocking down all but one of RSU 3-pointers.

The teams traded buckets for much of the first half but the Lions used a 9-3 run at the ends of the first 20 minutes to take a 39-30 lead into the locker room at the break.

The Hillcats won the battle on the boards, pulling in 44 rebounds compared to the Lions who tallied 37 boards.

The Lions were led in scoring by starter Ashlea Gray who contributed 19 points. Reserve Tayla Vaughn was the only other Lion to register double digits, adding 17 points.

RSU shot 55-percent from the 3-point range while knocking down 73-percent from the charity stripe.   The Hillcat held the Lions to shooting 34-percent from the field and 37-percent from long distance.

The Hillcats (4-1) return to the Claremore Expo on Tuesday, Nov. 23 as they open Sooner Athletic Conference play against John Brown. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. The game will be carried live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM and on rsuhillcats.com.
