CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State women's soccer team ends its season in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament with a 2-1 loss in the quarterfinals to Southern Nazarene on Saturday afternoon at Soldier Field.
The Hillcats avoided a goal in the 36 minute when midfielder Shereen Clarke saved a shot off the goal line however, one minute later junior Jackie Acevedo stripped the ball from the RSU defense and beating the keeper far post to take a 1-0 lead.
The Crimson Storm held onto the 1-0 advantage at the break, out-shooting the Hillcats 6-4.
RSU earned the equalizer in the 63rd minute with a goal by Jessica Turner. Clarke served the ball to the top of the box for Turner who chipped it over SNU goalkeeper, Rachael Wade. The goal was Turners fourth on the year.
Acevedo struck again in the 75th minute, scoring the game-winning goal off a cross from Kelsey Godfrey.
RSU had one final chance in the closing seconds of the game with a free kick from 45 yards out. Junior Abby Rickner sent the ball into the box where it bounced around, causing a scramble but the Hillcats were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
Chelsea McMullin took the loss in the net for the Hillcats. The freshman from Plano, Texas made 10 saves while allowing two goals.
The Hillcats end the season with a 10-8-1 overall record. Four senior end their career on the Hill. Claremore, Okla. native Tiffany Roberts finishes her four-year stint at RSU second in scoring with 41 goals. Bailey Lynn finishes holding the career and single season saves record with 101 saves in 101 and 293 career saves. Adrianna Jefferis and Casey Freeman also finish their career at RSU. Jefferis has been with the program since the inaugural season and Freeman spent the last two seasons with the Hillcats.
