Hillcat Women Soar Past Lady Eagles, 74-62

EDMOND, Okla. - The Rogers State women's basketball team never trailed in the second half and earned  a 74-62 win over Oklahoma Christian on Saturday evening at the Eagles Nest.

The Cats led by as many as 18 in the second half.  The Eagles tried to climb back into the game with a 14-5 run that cut RSU's lead to nine points.  However, OC never got closer than nine in the closing minutes and the Hillcats earned their first Sooner Athletic Conference win of the season.

Senior Cortney Crockett recorded eight of the Cats 15 steal on the night. Her eight steals broke the previous single-game record of 6, held by four players.  The Reading, Pa. native added 14 points and two assists to hers totals on the night.

The teams traded buckets in the opening half. The Hillcats gain control of the lead with an 8-0 run capped off by a layup by Sasha Barnes with ten minutes to play. Senior Angie Criner hit a layup and pushed the Hillcats lead to 12 with 16 seconds remaining in the half. OC guard Katy Cliff drew a foul from the 3-point line at the buzzer and drained all three free throws to cut the Cats lead to 34-26 at intermission.

Criner led RSU in scoring with a career-high 21 points.  Candice Stewart rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.

Amy Williams' squad shot 73-percent from the charity stripe and 44-percent from the field. For the second straight game the Hillcats struggled from long distance, knocking down 1-of-9.

Rogers State (6-3, 1-2) will return to the Claremore Expo on Thursday to play its final non-conference game of the season against Ecclesia College. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcasted live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM and rsuhillcats.com.
