CLAREMORE, Okla. - Everything that could go wrong did go wrong for Rogers State Thursday night as the Hillcats fell to Mid-America Christian in frustrating fashion at the Claremore Expo.
Â
RSU was held without a field goal for more than eight minutes down the stretch as the Lady Evangels surged to a 54-49 win. The Hillcats shot just 30 percent from the field on the night and failed to convert a single 3-point basket.
Â
RSU led by as many as 10 in the first half before watching its advantage dwindle to two before the intermission. MACU scored eight of the last 10 points in the period to make it a 24-22 game at the break.
Â
The Cats opened up a seven point lead midway through the second half on a driving layup by Andrea Miles. However, the RSU offense dried up quickly inside the 10-minute mark. A pair of field goals by Logan Froese in the closing seconds were the only baskets scored by the Hillcats in the final nine minutes of action.
The Lady Evangels knocked down six free throws in the final minute to secure the victory. MACU earned the win despite shooting 29 percent from the field. April Hale drilled three treys and led all scorers with 13 points. Michelle Hardimon chipped in with 11 points for the Evangels.
No RSU player reached double figures in scoring for the first time all season. The Hillcats committed 23 turnovers against MACU's full-court press. Autumn Thompson led the Cats with nine points while Miles and Froese added eight apiece.
Rogers State (16-6, 8-6) lost consecutive games for the first time all season. The Hillcats will look to rebound Saturday against No. 7 Oklahoma City on the road. Tip-off from Abe Lemons Arena is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the game will be carried live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
