KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Rogers State men's soccer team defeated Avila University 2-0 while the women's team fell to the Lady Eagles 3-0 at Swope Park on Monday afternoon.
Griffin Kane put the Hillcats on the board in the first half, drilling the ball past AU goalkeeper, Chris Kalicak.
RSU took a 1-0 lead into the locker room at intermission. Senior Des Fitzgerald sealed the game with a goal in the second half.
The RSU defense kept the ball out of the defensive-third for most of the game with senior goalkeeper Sean Surridge making two saves, getting the shut-out win.
The Hillcat women got behind early giving up a goal in the first 15 minutes of play. Lindsey Sieg found the back of the net off a cross from Tracie Geile. AU extended their lead just before halftime with a goal by Danielle Price.
The Lady Eagles rounded out their scoring and sealed the game with a goal by Kyndall Shadox. AU put 11 shots on frame with RSU goalkeeper Chelsea McMullin recording eight saves. AU goalkeeper Stephanie Gartner earned the shut-out win making seven saves.
The Hillcats return to action on Friday, Sept. 24th as they travel to Ottawa University. The women are set to kickoff at 2 p.m. with the men to follow at 4 p.m.
