OTTAWA, Kan. - The Rogers State men's soccer team picked up their sixth straight win on Friday afternoon, defeating Ottawa University 5-2 at Bank Field.
Junior Griffin Kane put the Hillcats on the board early, scoring in the fourth minute of play. Junior TJ Martin crossed the ball into the box and Kane sent a header into the goal.
The Braves answered in the 11th minute with a goal by Nelson Philips, tying the game 1-1.
Martin put the Hillcats back in the lead with a goal in the 27th minute. It was his fourth goal of the season.
RSU took a 2-1 lead into intermission. The Hillcats out-shot OU 15-4 in the first half.
The Braves knotted the score 2-2 in the 54th minute with a goal by Austin Steadman. Philip Nyguyen sent the ball into the box and Steadman shot it towards the goal. The ball ricocheted off Hillcat goalkeeper Sean Surridge and into the net.
Junior Marko Bukva scored his first goal of the season, finishing a loose ball in front of the net in the 66th minute to put the Hillcats back in front.
Senior Des Fitzgerald sealed the game with two goals. The first came in the 67th minute with an assist from Martin and the second in the 80th minute with an assist from Grant Smith.
Surridge earned the win in goal for the Hillcats. The RSU defense held the Braves to just four shots on goal.
The Hillcats (6-1-1) return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 28th as they open Sooner Athletic Conference play at Southern Nazarene University with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
