Men's Soccer Stuns ORU, 1-0

TULSA, Okla. - The Rogers State men's soccer team made history on Tuesday night, defeating NCAA Division I opponent Oral Roberts University 1-0 at the ORU Soccer Complex.

The win marks the first victory over a NCAA Division I opponent in any sport at RSU.

ORU transfer, Sergio Guerra scored in the 81st minute to lift Hillcats past the Golden Eagles (2-1-0). With time running down, Junior T.J. Martin sent the ball into the box, finding Guerra who sent a diving header past ORU goalkeeper Andrew Techanchuk in front of over 400 fans.

"This is a special win for our program," Head Coach Derek Larkin said. "We have 22 returners and 10 of them are seniors. I am so proud to see the guys who started the program earn such a big win."

RSU attacked the goal aggressively the entire game, putting five shots on frame. The Hillcat defense held the Golden Eagles to just one shot on goal. Senior Sean Surridge earned the shutout win in goal for RSU.

"I am proud of the way our guys played tonight," Larkin stated. "We came out organized and disciplined. We followed the game plan and it paid off."

The Hillcats (1-1-1) are back in action at Soldier Field on Friday, Sept.10 as they host Friends University (Kan.) at 7 p.m.
