CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State women's basketball team returned to its winning ways in a dominating fashion with a 87-54 victory over the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Thursday evening at the Claremore Expo.
Junior Brittani Smith gave the Cats the go-ahead bucket with 17:43 to play in the first half and RSU never trailed the rest of the way. The basket started a 23-2 run and Angie Criner capped the rally with a jumper from just inside the arc. RSU took a 43-21 advantage into intermission.
The Hillcats opened the second half with back-to-back buckets. Smith hit a trey from the top of the arc and senior Cortney Crockett knocked down a jumper from the free throw stripe to extend RSU's lead to 48-21. Candice Stewart hit a layup at the 18 minute mark to give the Hillcats a 30-point lead. The Cats led by 30 or more points the rest of the way. RSU forced 20 turnovers and finished with 12 steals. Junior guard Kristy Henderson finished with three steals and 11 second half points.
Five Hillcats finished with double-figures scoring. Stewart led the team with 18 points while pulling in nine rebounds. Henderson finished the night with a career-high 15 points while Smith registered 12 points, nine boards and blocked three shots. Crockett along with senior Andrea Miles rounded out the group with 11 points apiece.
RSU shot 48 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Lady Drovers 52-42. Sophomore Madison Harris pulled in a game-high 10 rebounds. The 10 boards is also the Sand Springs, Okla. native's career high.
Junior Korie Hargus was the lone double-digit scorer for the Lady Drovers. The Chickasha, Okla. native added 14 points on 5-of-11 from the field, shooting 2-of-2 from long distance.
Rogers State (12-6, 6-5) will hit the road on Saturday as they travel to Bethany, Okla. to face No. 21 Southern Nazarene at the Sawyer Center. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
