SHAWNEE, Okla. - The Rogers State women's basketball team took care of business on Saturday night as the Hillcats blew past Oklahoma Baptist 85-55 at Noble Complex.
The win marks the third consecutive blowout victory for the Hillcat women and their first win over the Lady Bison in program history.
The teams opened the game trading buckets. However, RSU took charge with a 12-0 run capped off by two made free throws by Senior Cortney Crockett with less than 15 minutes to play in the first. The Cats held OBU to 10 points in the opening 12 minutes of play and pushed the lead to 22 points at intermission with a jumper by Crockett at the buzzer. RSU took a 46-24 lead into the locker room at the break. Crockett led all scorers at the half with 10 points followed by fellow senior Hunter Peterson with eight points.
The Lady Bison couldn't contain the Hillcats who continued to pour on the points in the second half. RSU led by 30-plus points for most of the closing 20 minutes.
Peterson turned in her third double-digit scoring performance of the week with 14 points. The Jenks, Okla. native was 4-for-6 from long distance and 2-for-2 from behind the arc. Crockett led the Cats in scoring with 17 points. Junior Angie Criner and senior Andrea Miles each contributed 11 points to round out the double figure scorers.
RSU capitalized on OBU's 21 turnovers by converting 25 points. The Cats won the battle on the boards 52-42. Sophomore Logan Froese hauled in a team-high 13 rebounds. The sophomore from Claremore, Okla. just missed out on a double-double with eight points. Bridget Reynolds led OBU with 14 points and Lauren Crenshaw was the only other Lady Bison to post double figures with 13 points.
Rogers State (10-5, 4-4) returns to the Claremore Expo next week for a pair of home games against the West Texas foes as Lubbock Christian and Wayland Baptists come to town. The Cats will battle Lubbock Christian on Thursday with tip-off set for 6 p.m. The game will be carried on RSU Radio 91.3 and on RSU Public Television.
