CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State men's soccer team produced a 3-0 victory over Mid-America Christian Friday afternoon at Soldier Field.
The Hillcats jumped on the board in the 21st minute as Mohammed Shaban tallied his eighth goal of the season off a header from Bryan Jones. The freshman forward slotted the ball past the Evangel goalkeeper after a Jones header put the ball on the backside.
RSU added an insurance goal just two minutes into the second stanza when Henrique Sousa delivered a free kick to the back post from 30 yards out putting RSU up 2-0.
In the 55th minute, Sousa looked to cross the ball into the box but a MACU handball gave the Hillcats a penalty kick. Sousa shot to the left side of the goal and tickled the twine to give RSU a 3-0 advantage. The goal by the Sao Paulo, Brazil native was his second of the game and fifth of the season.
Goalkeeper Nathan Inger pitched the shutout for RSU recording one save in 90 minutes of play. Zane Bourne registered the loss for the Evangels giving up three goals while nabbing six saves.
The Hillcats outshot the Evangels 17-4 as RSU moves to 8-5-2 on the season, 5-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. MACU moves to 2-10-2, 0-7-1 on the year.
RSU returns to the field Tuesday, Oct. 25 in Shawnee, Okla. taking on St. Gregory's at 3 p.m.
