SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. - The Rogers State men's soccer team used a pair of second half goals to defeat John Brown University 2-1 at Alumni Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Griffin Kane registered the game-winning goal in the 56th minute of the play off a header during a scramble in the box.
Freshman Mohammed Shaban crossed the ball into the box to Grant Smith who passed the ball into the net for the equalizer, 46 seconds into the second stanza.
JBU took a 1-0 lead in the opening half as Hunter Bradford tapped the ball into the net from the six-yard box off a long throw in by Joel Thomas.
The Hillcats took 12 shots in the contest, yet only managed to fire three on frame. The Golden Eagles registered eight shots and put two on frame.
Jeremy Swift recorded the win in goal for the Hillcats making one save and allowing one goal.
With the win, the Hillcats move into a tie for fifth place with Oklahoma Baptist University in the Sooner Athletic Conference standing. The Bison win the tie breaker as they defeated the Hillcats during the regular season.
Rogers State (10-7-1, 5-4-1) will find out who they will face in the opening round at the SAC Tournament on Wednesday when the bracket is released by the conference office.
