Hillcats Nip Wildcats, 85-63

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State women's basketball team put the pressure on Baker University Tuesday night inside the Claremore Expo as the Hillcats won, 85-63.

RSU put a tight stranglehold upon the Wildcats forcing BU into 26 turnovers using a full-court press for the opening stanza. Coach Amy Williams' squad came away with 16 steals and converted 20 points off of turnover. The two teams combined for just 23 personal fouls and shot a combined 18 free throws.

Sierra Cornwell dropped in a field goal just 6:44 into the contest off an Ariani Silva assist to give the Hillcats a 19-2 lead. The Hillcats didn't allow the Wildcats into double figures on the scoreboard until nine minutes in as a Kyra Ramsey jumper cut the RSU deficit to 25-10. RSU entered the half leading 39-26.

The Hillcats opened the second half building the lead to 23 points just three minutes in and hitting the plateau again with 13:38 remaining. That's when Baker opened up the offense and went on a 24-7 run over the next eight minutes cutting the Hillcat lead to just six points with 5:11 to go in the contest. RSU responded with a run of its own going 15-0 in just over two minutes to lead by 21 points. The Hillcats came away with the 85-63 victory.

The Hillcats were led in scoring by Leah Smith with 19 while Gianna Woods chipped in with 18 points as the two combined for 16-of-30 shooting from the field. Logan Froese tallied 10 points for RSU and Brittani Smith added 13 as the Hillcats dominated the paint outscoring Baker 44-24 in the post. Sasha Barnes nabbed 5 steals while Sierra Cornwell dropped five assists to go with nine points as the RSU starters outscored BU 56-35.

Baker (1-6) was led in scoring by Gloria Atanmo as the senior posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards. Kyra Ramsey rounded out the Wildcats double-figure scorers with 12 points.
