SHAWNEE, Okla. - The Rogers State women's basketball team returned to the hardwood after a nine-day hiatus due to inclement weather with an, 85-52, win over St. Gregory on Tuesday afternoon at W.P. Wood Fieldhouse.
The Hilcats held the lead from start to finish however, the Lady Cavaliers kept the deficit to single-digits for the first 10 minutes of the game. The Cats used a 7-0 run to stretch their lead to 18 points, the largest of the half. RSU finished the first 20 minutes with a 43-26 advantage. Junior Angie Criner led all scorers in the opening stanza as she poured in 11 points.
RSU held a commanding lead throughout the second half. Senior Hunter Peterson hit a 3-pointer and Cortney Crockett followed with a jumper to push the lead to 20 points. RSU led by as many as 35 points in the second half. All but one Hillcat scored in the game with Peterson, Criner and Candice Stewart leading the team in scoring with 15 points apiece. Crockett finished with 12 points after only putting away two points in the first half.
Coach Amy Williams' squad nabbed 14 steals while SGU committed 26 turnovers. RSU shot 54 percent from the floor and 44 percent from long distance. The Cats were 3-of-5 from behind the arc in the second half.
Three SGU players finished with 10 points apiece while the Cavaliers shot 36 percent from the field and 19 percent from behind the arc.
With the win today, the Hillcats secure fifth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings, two games back from John Brown who edged Oklahoma Baptist today to hold onto fourth in the standings. Southern Nazarene and Lubbock Christian are knotted in second place one and a half games back from the leader, Oklahoma City University.
