Softball Cats Split with No. 10 Southern Nazarene

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Roger State softball team earned a doubleheader split over No. 10 Southern Nazarene on Saturday afternoon at Hillcat Complex.

The Cats blasted three homers in the opener as they registered a 9-4 victory. In the nightcap, senior Logan Zamora belted her second home run of the afternoon in the bottom of the seventh to bring the Cats within one run of the Crimson Storm; however RSU fell shot as they lost 5-4.

GAME ONE

Home runs by Katrina Loy, Shelby Brogdon and Zamora pushed the Cats past the Crimson Storm in game one.

RSU never trailed in the contest and opened the game with a 4-0 advantage.  With runners on first and third sophomore Amanda Edwards hit a single to score Brittany White. Katrina Loy followed with a three-run shot over the fence in left-center field.

Brogdon went deep with two outs in the third inning to push the Hillcats lead to 6-0.

SNU earned two runs in the top of the fourth but the Hillcats countered with one run in the fourth and a two-run homer by Zamora in the fifth to lead 9-2.

The Storm added two runs in the six and held the Cats scoreless in the bottom of the inning. However, RSU retired the side in the top of the seventh for the win.

Edwards tossed a complete game and allowed four runs on nine hits with one strikeout. Jordan Simmons suffered the loss for the Crimson Storm as she pitched three and two third innings.

GAME TWO

The Hillcats seventh inning rally fell shot in the nightcap as their bats were quite for much of the game with just three hits in the contest.

RSU trailed the Storm 5-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Zamora smashed a two-run home run over the left field fence to cut the Hillcat deficit to one run. SNU pitcher Kaci Crawford retired the next two batters to end the game and claim the victory.

SNU dented the scoreboard first in game two as they post four runs in the second.  RSU cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning with a two-RBI single by Taran Threet.

The game winning run came in the top of the sixth with a wild pitch by Ashley Wailand which allowed Shanna Buckles to score.

Edwards suffered the loss in the circle as the tossed three innings and allowed four runs on five hits. Wailand finished the game and allowed one run on six hits with three strikeouts.

Rogers State (24-15, 4-8) returns to action on Tuesday as they host Oklahoma Christian in a twin bill at Hillcat Complex. Frist pitch is set for 4 p.m.
