Softball Cats Swept By No.10 Oklahoma City

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Roger State softball team dropped a pair of games to No. 10 Oklahoma City on Saturday afternoon at the Hillcat Complex in Claremore.

In the opener, the game was tight until the top of the seventh inning when the Stars amassed five hits to score five run and register a 7-1 victory. In the nightcap, OCU posted runs in each of the first five innings and ended the game early with a 10-1 run-rule.

GAME ONE

The Stars dented the scoreboard first in the opener as they plated one run in the first inning.  With two outs, Brittany Caruthers belted a double off the wall in right field to plate Nathalie Timmermans.

The Cats evened the score in the bottom of the third with back-to-back hits by Brittany White and Ashlie Fauchier. White smack a single to right field and stole second while Fauchier knocked her in with a single to shallow centerfield.

Tori Joyner hit an RBI single to place the Stars back in the lead in the top of the fourth. OCU put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh as they belted five hits, including two home runs, to push the lead to 7-1.

Ashley Wailand (13-9) took the loss for the Hillcats while Lily LaVelle (22-7) earned the win in the circle for OCU.

Fauchier recorded two of the Cats four hits in the game and drove in RSU's lone run.

GAME TWO

LaVelle opened the nightcap with a lead-off solo shot over the left field fence to give OCU an early 1-0 advantage.

The Hillcats left the bases loaded in the bottom of the first and the Stars increased their lead to 4-0 in the top of the second with a trio of runs.

OCU made it a 5-0 game in the third with the help of two RSU errors. The Hillcats had chances to chip away at the deficit in the bottom half of the inning however, they left three runners on base.

OCU tacked on three runs in the top of the fifth to make it a 10-0 contest. RSU avoided the shutout in the bottom half of the inning. White led off the seventh with a double to left-centerfield. She reached third on a sacrifice bunt by Ashlie Fauchier and scored on a wild pitch.

Ashley Wailand (13-10) suffered the loss in the circle after pitching 2.2 innings and allowing six runs, five earned, on seven hits with one strikeout.  A.J. Woodward (15-4) earned the complete-game victory for OCU

Fauchier and White tallied the Cats two hits.

Seniors Brittany White, Angelina Vines, Dina Ortiz, Logran Zamora, Tanya Koch, Katie Bointy and Sarah Harvey played their final games at Hillcat Complex. All seven seniors were honored with a senior day ceremony prior to the doubleheader.

Rogers State (32-24, 9-15) will enter the eight-team Sooner Athletic Conference tournament on Friday at the Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. For more information about the SAC softball tournament visit www.soonerathletic.org.
