Hillcats Halted by Evangel

CLAREMORE, Okla.- The Rogers State softball team was unable to defeat Evangel (Mo.) on back-to-back days as they fell 7-3 on Saturday morning at the Border War Festival in Claremore.

Evangel took an early lead as they plated one run in the top of the first. Sophomore Katrina Loy quickly knotted the score in the bottom of the second with a solo shot over the centerfield fence.

With bases loaded in the top of the third, Hannah Somers cleared the bases with a double to take a 4-1 advantage.

The Hillcats cut the deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly by Amanda Edwards that sent Brittany White across home plate.

Kari Tall-Domingos hit a solo shot in the top of the fourth to push the Crusader lead to 5-2 but Loy crushed her second homer of the game in the bottom half of the inning to keep the Cats in the contest.

Evangel pushed a pair of runs across home plate in the sixth off a single by Leslie Kayser while retiring the side in the bottom of the sixth and seventh to ice the win.

Edwards registered the loss in the circle for the Cats as she tossed the complete game and allowed seven runs on nine hits while fanning two hitters.

Katelyn Tolle earned the win for the Crusaders as pitched the final three innings  innings and held the Hillcats scoreless with four strikeouts.
