CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State men's soccer team notched its third–straight victory on Tuesday evening with a 5-0 win over Southwestern Christian (Okla.) at Soldier Field.
The Hillcats wasted no time as they took the lead in the second minute of play. Senior Henrique Sousa registered his first goal of the season off a free kick from 20 yards out that snuck past the keeper.
Minutes later, senior T.J. Martin gave the Hillcats a 2-0 advantage. Junior Gary Arauz passed the ball into the corner for junior Justin Friesen who crossed the ball into the box for Martin who headed the ball into the net.
RSU took the two-goal lead into intermission as they put eight shots on frame in the opening half.
Just after the break, Sousa was awarded a free kick 25 yards out. He crossed the ball to the backside of the goal and senior Ryan Coffman put the ball away. It was the defenders first goal of the season.
Coffman struck again in the 66th minute, heading a Martin corner kick into the net.
The Hillcats weren't done. In the 84th minute, freshman Devon Williams passed the ball through the defenders legs to Sousa at the top of the box. The San Paulo, Brazil native left no doubt as he buried the ball in the back of the net.
With the shutout victory, the Hillcats compiled their fourth clean sheet of the season. Junior Nathan Inger registered the win in goal, making five saves.
Rogers State (4-1) returns to action on Friday as they travel to Friends University (Kan.) with kickoff set for 8 p.m. The Hillcats return to Claremore on Thursday, Sept. 29 as they host Wayland Baptist in their Sooner Athletic Conference opener at 7 p.m.
