LAREDO, Texas - The Rogers State women's soccer team suffered a 4-1 loss in its Heartland Conference debut against Texas A&M International on Saturday evening.
The Dustdevils took an early lead as Sam Zerilli scored the first goal of the night in the 21st minute off a free kick. Twelve minutes later, Zerilli assisted TAMIU's second goal of the night, scored by Jessica Parker.
Senior Melissa Subu cut the Dustdevil's lead in half in the 33rd minute as she converted a penalty kick to make it a 2-1 game. TAMIU took the one-goal lead into the locker room at the break.
The Dustdevils sealed the win in the second stanza with a pair of unanswered goals by Kim Garcia.
TAMIU outshot the Hillcats 14-9. Jordan Harris suffered the loss in goal as she gave up four goals while making five saves in 76 minutes of play. Christina Morales and Anna Martinez split time in goal for TAMIU, combining for three saves.
Rogers State (1-6-0, 0-1-0 HC) will return to action in the Heartland Conference on Monday at 2 p.m. in San Antonio against St. Mary's.
