CLAREMORE, Okla. – After scoring the first three goals of the match, the Rogers State men's soccer team held on for a 3-2 victory over visiting Dallas Baptist on Senior Night at Soldier Field Saturday night.
On a night where five seniors were honored, a pair of juniors provided the scoring as
Dylan Beaird net the Hillcats' first two goals and
Lars Lindtner capped the scoring with the eventual game winner on a three-point night.
RSU created numerous changes right at the Dallas Baptist doorstep but could not break through as the teams entered the halftime break scoreless despite a 10-4 advantage in shots.
Early in the second half, the Hillcats took over the game as Beaird registered two goals in a six-minute span. His first came on a perfect cross from Garcia, who was played to the end line on a pass from Lindtner in the 51st minute. Beaird struck again in the 57th minute burying a rebound off a
Necas Collins shot. Collins matched T.J. Martin's all-time assist record with the 17th of his career and team-leading seventh of the season on the play.
Lindtner continued the scoring barrage for RSU in the 63rd minute firing his third goal of the year. He took a long pass from seniors
Austin Sexton and
Devin Zvosec before sprinting past the Patriots' back line and sending a shot just inside the left post giving the Hillcats a 3-0 advantage.
DBU cut into the deficit less than three minutes later as Cameron Gilbert headed a cross past RSU goalkeeper
Joey Arnold in the 66th minute. Gilbert got the Patriots within one late in the match scoring his second of the night heading another set piece with 2:01 remaining in regulation converting a Brian Robertson free kick.
The Hillcats sweat out the final two minutes securing the conference victory moving to 3-3 in Heartland Conference play.
Arnold earned the win in goal making two saves while Mason Stringer took the loss for DBU making one save in relief of starter Chuck Schober, who finished his night early with an injury after turning aside two shots.
RSU (7-8 overall, 3-3 HC) closes the 2014 home season Monday afternoon facing in-state rival Oklahoma Christian at 2:30 p.m. at Soldier Field. The match will be streamed live on the Hillcat Network at
