CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to John Brown under the lights at Soldier Field Tuesday night.
Despite the final score line, the Hillcats battled right with former Sooner Athletic Conference rival Golden Eagles throughout the contest creating numerous chances at goal but could not find the back of the net.
JBU broke the scoreless game with 10:18 remaining before halftime when Marco Cardona chipped a pass over the RSU defense and Ryan Duncan got to the loose ball before an on-rushing goalkeeper
Cody Gammill. Duncan got the outside of his foot onto the ball pushing into the open net giving the Golden Eagles the 1-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Hillcats nearly got the equalizer in the 50th minute on their eighth of nine corner kicks in the match.
Danko Kenjic curled a perfect cross into the box but
Caleb Pitts' glancing header sailed just past the far post.
RSU continued to push forward searching for the tying goal and had its chances as
Dylan Beaird and
Necas Collins both had opportunities towards goal putting the near-full stands on the edge of their seats.
The Golden Eagles later capitalized on a corner kick registering their second goal of the evening in the 59th minute when Will Simonds redirected a rebound into the corner of the goal. JBU sealed the road victory late in the contest on a give-and-go tally from Eli Simonsen with less than six minutes to play.
Gammill finished the night with a career-high six saves taking the loss for the Hillcats while Adam Holt got the win for JBU making one save.
