RSU Men's Soccer Suffers Loss to Southwestern Christian

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State men's soccer team suffered a 6-2 decision to visiting Southwestern Christian closing a four-game home stand Tuesday afternoon at Soldier Field.
 
The Eagles, still unbeaten on the season at 6-0-1, took an early lead tallying the opening goal in the 12th minute when Svetislav Milic connected on a crisp passing play with Jeffrey Raghoebar. Adam Butler doubled the SCU lead at the 24:40 mark scoring the first of three goals on set pieces in the match with a header off the back post.
 
The Hillcats cut the deficit in half as Jose Escobedo tallied his first goal of the season flicking a cross from Dylan Beaird off the post and past SCU goalkeeper Kyle Mickleburgh in the 29th minute. Necas Collins started the buildup recording his fourth assist of the season moving to third on the RSU all-time points list with 40.
 
Chad Dennis put SCU back ahead by two with a header five minutes later converting another free kick giving the Eagles a 3-1 advantage at the halftime break. Milic added his second goal of the match in the 49th minute and Jamie Campbell scored his team-leading 12th of the year for a 5-1 lead in the 54th minute.
 
Austin Sexton gave the Hillcats their second goal of the day burying a rebound from a long-range Mitchell Sowerby shot with less than 13 minutes to play for his first goal of the season. SCU closed the victory with another insurance goal securing the 6-2 road win.
 
Cody Gammill suffered the loss for RSU allowing five goals while making four saves before Mitchell Penton entered in relief. Penton registered six saves and one goal allowed over the final 30 minutes of his first appearance this season. Mickleburgh earned the win for the Eagles making five saves.
 
RSU, now 3-3 overall, is back in action Sept. 30 when it travels to Liberty, Missouri to take on William Jewell. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
