Jordan Permaul made his collegiate debut one to remember, scoring the winning goal while fellow freshman
Cody Gammill recorded a clean sheet as the Rogers State men's soccer team opened the season with a 2-0 victory over Southern Nazarene Thursday night at Wes Harmon Field.
Permaul broke through the defense and collected a pass from junior
Caleb Pitts in the 40th minute before chipping the ball over SNU goalkeeper Jeff Ray for the eventual game-winning goal. The Owasso, Oklahoma native entered the game as a substitute less than seven minutes before tallying his first career goal.
Holding a 1-0 advantage at intermission, the Hillcats continued their control of the match into the second half holding the Crimson Storm off the scoreboard. Pitts sealed the victory, scoring with 14 seconds remaining, getting a pass from junior
Lars Lindtner and tucking a shot inside the left post as the Hillcats closed the night with the 2-0 decision.
Gammill finished his first-career start making two saves for the shutout while his SNU counterpart stopped five RSU shots.
The Hillcats remain on the road for their next contest heading to Shawnee, Oklahoma to face Oklahoma Baptist Sept. 9 at 7 p.m.
