Hillcats Flawless in Finale

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Twelve Rogers State men's soccer seniors completed their careers in the RSU red and navy Thursday night at Soldier Field with a 2-0 victory over Newman.

Tonight's clean sheet propelled the Hillcats to a program record for goals against, allowing just 16 goals in a single-season. The previous record, set in 2010 and 2011, was 21 goals against.

Niall Masterson gave RSU its first scoring opportunity four minutes into the match with a curling right-footed shot tipped over the cross bar by Jets' goalkeeper Callum Dillon.

RSU goalkeeper Cody Gammill made a diving save of his own in the 13th minute on a point-blank shot by Gefte Blanc to keep the game scoreless.

Senior Danko Kenjic tallied the eventual game-winning goal in the 25th minute, sneaking a free kick past the keeper from 25 yards out. The Hillcats clung to the one-goal lead at intermission.

In the 71st minute, Kevin Kwarteng broke through the defense and fired a shot that sailed just over the crossbar as RSU continued to put pressure on the Newman back line.

The Hillcats extended their lead in the 77th minute as Dylan Beaird scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season off a dish from Masterson, who set the single-season record for assists with his eighth of the year.

RSU controlled much of the second stanza, recoding its eighth shutout of the season, winning 2-0.

Gammill earned his 10th win of the year making seven saves in the match, while Dillon was tagged with the loss for Newman making four saves and allowing two goals.

Masterson, Kenjic, Beaird, Kevin Howard, Mitchell Sowerby, Timothy Nuckols, Lars Lindtner, Caleb Pitts, Carson Lynn, Jose Escobedo and Mitchell Penton finished their careers in RSU red and navy.
